At 3:54pm on Friday November 12, the Center Moriches Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with the report of an occupant trapped on Montauk Hwy east of the Moriches By-Pass.

Upon arrival of the fire department units they found a large truck on its side across both lanes of Montauk Hwy just west of the Long Island Railroad overpass. The driver of the truck stated he just left McDonalds and was traveling east on Montauk Highway when his truck struck the railroad overpass and overturned.

The driver of the truck was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue with minor injuries. LIRR train service was suspended until engineers could inspect the bridge for any damage. Montauk Highway was also closed in both directions for 4 hours while crews clean up the wreckage. The cause is under investigation by SCPD.
