On Tuesday June 1, Suffolk County 911 received numerous calls reporting a house fire on Sedgemere Road off Union Ave.
Upon arrival of the chiefs they were met with a heavy fire load self venting out the second floor of a two story wood frame home. Engine crews from the Center Moriches & East Moriches Fire Departments quickly entered the dwelling stretching in 2 attack lines to extinguish the fire as well as conducted primary searches.
Firefighters worked to contain the majority of the fire damage to the second floor bedrooms. All fire was quickly knocked down and the fire was placed under control within 90 minutes. Center Moriches FD EMS provided firefighter rehab at the scene, while CM Fire Police assisted Suffolk County Police with traffic control. The Center Moriches Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary was also called out help feed the more than 50 firefighters that were on scene.
Mutual aid was requested from East Moriches FD for an Engine, Mastic for Engine, Manorville for rapid intervention, East Moriches EMS for one ambulance, and Eastport for 1 Engine to stand by at the Center Moriches firehouse to cover any other calls in Center Moriches.
The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Town of Brookhaven's Fire Marshal's office.
