Earlier today, the Center Moriches Fire Department responded to William Floyd Middle School after a student distributed THC-infused gummies to classmates, causing 12 students to fall ill. Eleven of those students were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation.
We are grateful for the swift actions of our firefighters, EMTs, and the school staff in ensuring these students received the care they needed. This incident highlights the importance of a strong partnership between our schools and local first responders in protecting our community.
A special thank you to Mastic Ambulance, Manorville Ambulance, Stony Brook Medic-65, and Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services for providing additional resources to assist in this response.
We wish all those affected a quick recovery and encourage ongoing conversations about the dangers of substance use among young students. |
